കരുനാഗപ്പള്ളി : ഭഗവദ്ഗീതയും മനുസ്മൃതിയും മലയാളത്തിലേക്ക് തർജ്ജിമ ചെയ്ത ലോകത്തിലെ തന്നെ ആദ്യത്തെ മുസ്ലിം പണ്ഡിതനെന്ന് എടുത്തു പറയാവുന്ന നമ്മുടെ കരുനാഗപ്പള്ളി സ്വദേശി വിദ്വാൻ എ. ഇസ്ഹാക്ക് എന്ന മഹത് വ്യക്തിത്വത്തെ നമ്മൾ ഓർക്കാതെ പോകരുത്.

മതവൈരം കത്തിയെരിയുന്ന കാലത്ത് അന്യ മതങ്ങളുടെ അകപ്പൊരുളറിയുന്ന മനസ്സുമായി കഴിഞ്ഞ നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ സ്ഥാനം നേടിയ ഒരു പണ്ഡിതൻ നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു എന്നതിൽ നമുക്കഭിമാനിക്കാം. കരുനാഗപ്പള്ളി നഗരസഭയയിലെ ഒരു റോഡിന് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പേര് നൽകിയതും പ്രശംസനീയമാണ്.

കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിൽ കരുനാഗപ്പള്ളി താലൂക്കിൽ മരുതൂർകുളങ്ങര വാഴയത്ത് വീട്ടിൽ 1917 ൽ ജനിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം പിതാവിൽ നിന്നും മാതുലനിൽ നിന്നും ലഭിച്ച ഭാഷാപരിചയത്തിലുടെ സംസ്കൃതത്തിൽ അവഗാഹം നേടി. മദ്രാസ് സർവ്വകലാശാലയിൽ നിന്ന് മലയാളം വിദ്വാൻ പരീക്ഷ പാസായ ശേഷം കരുനാഗപ്പള്ളി താലൂക്കിലെ വിവിധ സ്കൂളുകളിൽ ഭാഷാധ്യാപകനായി സേവനം അനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് പാലക്കാട് അലനല്ലൂർ ഗവ. സ്കൂളിൽനിന്ന് ദീർഘനാളത്തെ സേവനത്തിന് ശേഷം 1970 ൽ റിട്ടയർഡ് ആയി.

1977 ൽ ആണ് അദ്ദേഹം ഭഗവദ്ഗീത മലയാളത്തിലേക്ക് പരിഭാഷപ്പെടുത്തി
യത്. അതേവർഷം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച ഈ പരിഭാഷ -കൈരളി ഭഗവത്ഗീത- എന്ന പേരിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്. ഭഗവദ്ഗീത മലയാളത്തിലേക്ക് പരിഭാഷപ്പെടുത്തിയ ലോകത്തിലെ തന്നെ ഏക മുസ്ലീം പണ്ഡിതനും ഇദ്ദേഹമാണ്.

ഭഗവദ്ഗീത, മനുസ്മൃതി, നീതി ശതകം, തിരുക്കുറൽ(പൂർണ്ണമല്ല), മറ്റ് സ്വത്രന്ത കവിതകൾ, ലേഖനങ്ങൾ എന്നിങ്ങനെ മികച്ച സംഭാവനകൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ലഭിച്ചിട്ടും മലയാളം ബിരുദമോ ബിരുദാനന്തര ബിരുദമമോ എടുത്ത് പഠിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് പോലും അദ്ദേഹത്തേയോ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കൃതികളെക്കുറിച്ചോ യാതൊന്നും അറിഞ്ഞു കൂടാത്ത സ്ഥിതിയാണ് ഇപ്പോഴുള്ളത്. പുതുതലമുറയ്ക്ക് ഇത്തരം ചരിത്രപരമായ അവഗാഹം വളർത്തിയെടുക്കാൻ നാം ബാധ്യസ്ഥരാണ്.

കേന്ദ്ര,കേരള സർക്കാരിന്റെ ഫെലോഷിപ്പുകളും ധനസഹായവും കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാഡമി പുരസ്കാരവും ലഭിച്ച ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കൃതികളേയും സാഹിബിനേയും പുതുതലമുറ അറിയുകയും പഠിക്കുകയും വേണം.

മതത്തിന്റെ വേലിക്കെട്ടിനപ്പുറം ഭാഷയുടേയും സാഹിത്യത്തിന്റേയും പുരോഗതിയും വളർച്ചയും ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കി പ്രവർത്തിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം പ്രവാചക സന്ദേശങ്ങളുടെ അന്തഃസത്ത ഒന്നാണെന്ന് ബോധ്യപ്പെടുത്തുക എന്നതാണ് തന്റെ പരിഭാഷയുടെ ഉദ്ദേശം എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്. ശ്രീനാരായണ ഗുരുദേവൻ വിഭാവനം ചെയ്ത ഏകമത സിദ്ധാന്തത്തിന്റെ പ്രചാരണത്തിനും മതമൈത്രിയ്ക്കും തന്റെ പരിഭാഷ സഹായമാകുമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്.

കൈരളി ഭഗവത്ഗീത 1977 ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചതിന് ശേഷം 1980 ലും 2011 ലുമായി മൂന്ന് പതിപ്പുകൾ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. സാഹിത്യ പ്രവർത്തക സഹകരണ സംഘമാണ് പ്രസാധകർ. ഭാരതീയ തത്വചിന്താപദ്ധതി സമഗ്രമായി അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ബ്രഹത് ഗ്രന്ഥമായ ഭഗവദ്ഗീത ലളിതമായ ഭാഷയിൽ മൂലകൃതിയുടെ ഭംഗി ചോരാതെ മലയാളത്തിലേക്ക് തർജ്ജമ ചെയ്തതാണ് ഇസഹാക്ക് സാഹിബിന്റെ മികവ്.

നിരണം കവിയും കുഞ്ഞിക്കുട്ടൻ തമ്പുരാനും രൈരുനായരും ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന കവികളുടെ തർജ്ജമകളേക്കാൾ എല്ലാ അർത്ഥത്തിലും മികച്ചതാണ് കൈരളി ഭഗവദ് ഗീതയെന്ന് പണ്ഡിത ശ്രേഷ്ഠന്മാർ ഏകസ്വരത്തിൽ പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്. മലയാള സാഹിത്യ കുലപതിയായ ശ്രീ. ശൂരനാട് കുഞ്ഞൻപിള്ളയാണ് ഈ പരിഭാഷയ്ക്ക് അവതാരിക എഴുതിയിട്ടുള്ളത്. അതു തന്നെ പരിഭാഷയ്ക്കുള്ള ഏറ്റവും വലിയ അംഗീകാരമാണ്.

ശ്രീ.വിദ്യാനന്ദ തീർത്ഥപാദസ്വാമികൾ, ശ്രീ.കെ.പി നാരായണ പിഷാരടി, സ്വാമി വിശ്വഭദ്രാനന്ദ ശക്തി ബോധി, ശ്രീ.പി. ഗോവിന്ദപിള്ള, വിദ്യാവാചസ്പതി, വി.പനോളി, ആചാര്യ നരേന്ദ്രഭൂഷൻ, തുടങ്ങി എണ്ണമറ്റ സംസ്കൃത പണ്ഡിതന്മാർ ഈ കൃതിയെ മുക്ത കണ്ഠം പ്രശംസിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. 18 അദ്ധ്യായങ്ങളും വൃത്താനുവൃത്തമായി പരിഭാഷപ്പെടുത്തിയ ഈ കൃതിയ്ക്ക് വ്യാഖ്യാനവും ഇസഹാക്ക് സാഹിബ് തന്നെ നടത്തണമെന്ന ശ്രീ.എൻ.വി. കൃഷ്ണവാര്യരുടെ നിർദ്ദേശം ഈ പരിഭാഷയ്ക്കുള്ള മറ്റൊരു അംഗീകാരമാണ്.

കേരളത്തിന്റെ സംസ്കാരിക ചരിത്രത്തിൽ ഇസഹാക്ക് സാഹിബിന്റെ സ്ഥാനം അതുല്യമാണെന്നും അദ്ദേഹമാണ് ഭഗവദ്ഗീതയും മനുസ്മൃതിയും ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള ഹിന്ദുമത പ്രമാണ ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങൾ സംസ്കൃതത്തിൽ
നിന്ന് മലയാളത്തിലേക്ക് തർജ്ജമ ചെയ്ത ആദ്യ മുസ്ലീം എന്ന വിശ്വഭൂദാനന്ദശക്തി ബോധിയുടെ വാക്കുകൾ ഏറെ പ്രസക്തമാണ്.

സംസ്കൃത സർവ്വകലാശാലകളിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടെ താരതമ്യ പഠനത്തിനോ വിവർത്തന സാഹിത്യ പഠനത്തിനോ ഉപയോഗിക്കാവുന്ന കൃതികളുമാണിവ. അങ്ങനെ ഉണ്ടായാൽ ആ വ്യക്തിക്കും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സംഭാവനകൾക്കും നല്കാവുന്ന ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ആദരവായി അത് മാറും. ഒപ്പം വിസ്മൃതിയിൽ ആണ്ട് പോയേക്കാവുന്ന ഈ കൃതികളെ അനുവാചക ഹൃദയങ്ങളിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കാനും കഴിയും.

ഇദ്ദേഹത്തോളം പ്രശസ്തരല്ലാത്തവരുടെ സംഭാവനകൾ പോലും പുസ്തകത്താളുകളിൽ പഠനാർഹമാകുമ്പോൾ എന്തുകൊണ്ടും അർഹനായ ഈ പണ്ഡിത ശ്രേഷ്ഠനെ പുതിയ തലമുറയ്ക്ക് പഠിക്കാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം പാഠപുസ്തകങ്ങളിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തണമെന്നൊരു അപേക്ഷ പരിഗണനയ്ക്കായി കുറച്ചു ദിവസം മുമ്പ് ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മകനായ വാഴയത്ത് വീട്ടിൽ ശ്രീ. ഷാജഹാൻ കേരള ഗവർണർക്ക് ഒരു കത്തും നൽകിയിരുന്നു. നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടിലെ പല പൊതുപ്രവർത്തകരോടും ഈ ആഗ്രഹം പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. വിദ്വാൻ എ. ഇസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ ഓർമ്മയ്കൾ നിലനിർത്തുന്നതിനായി അടുത്ത മാസം ഒരു ഓഫീസ് തുടങ്ങാനും തീരുമാനിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

Vidwan Ishac Sahib occupies a pride of place among the Sanskrit scholars in Kerala, He is chiefly remembered for his matchless and inimitable contribution in the field of translation of Sanskrit Classics.

Born in 1917 in Karunagappally Taluk of Kollam District (Kerala, India), Ishac Sahib inherited his profound scholarship from his father. After having passed -Vidwan- examination from Madras University Sahib served as school teacher in various schools in Karunagappally Taluk. He retired from Govt.High school Alanallurr Palakkad in 1970 after rendering meritorious service for many years.

Sahib debut work is his Malayalam translation of -Bhagavad geetha- which he published in 1977. Subsequent editions of the book were brought out in 1980 and 2011. The publication of this ambitious project was undertaken by The Sahitya Pravarthaka Sahakarana Sangam (NBS) a pioneer firm in the field of publishing. The credit goes to Ishac Sahib for being the first Muslim writer who has translated the classic into Malayalam language.

The book, as the author has claimed, is aimed at breaking the barriers of religious dogmas. lt focuses on the development of Malayalam language and literature and shows the readers the essential spirit of the Great Teachings of the prophets. He has expressed his conviction that the book would be instrumental in propagating the great message of one religion envisioned and preached by Sree Narayana Guru.

Eversince the publication of -Kairali Bhagvad geetha- in 1977 literary enthusiasts had hailed it as a master piece which epitomizes the essence of Indian Philosophy in all its entirety. At the same time, the translation of the book is carried out in a lucid and simple style, keeping intact the ease, force and beauty of the language.

There is a unanimous critical acclaim that Sahib’s translation stands on a par with the great works of Niranam poets, Kunjikuttan Tampuran and Rairu Nair in terms of its content and style. The very fact that the foreword to this book is written by the splendid literary luminary Shri Sooranadu Kunjan Pillai bears testimony to its excellence. Great scholars such as Shri. Vidyananda Theertha Pada Swamikal, Shri. T.K.Narayan Pisharady, Swami Viswanada Sakthi Bodhi, Shri.P.Govinda pillai, Vidyavachaspathi.V. Panoli, Acharya Narendra Bhushan have showered boundless encomium on this masterpiece.

The suggestion put forward by Shri. N.V.Krishna Warrier that Ishac Sahib ought to have written an interpretation of the great book is in recognition of the merits of the book. The unique and exalted position occupied by the author is underlined by Viswa Bhadrananda Sakthi Bhodhi’s comment that Sahib is the first Muslim to have undertaken such a meticulous translation from Sanskrit.

Inspite of authoring the great classis like -Bhagavad Geetha-, -Manusmrithi-, -Neethi Shathakam-, -Thirukural-(incomplete) and other precious articles Sahib has never been introduced to our academic community either at the UG or PG levels We are bound to dispel the darkness of ignorance which envelops our student community. Students must be shown the historical truth.

The book may be considered for prescription in the universities in Kerala in the genre of Translation studies or Comparitive literature. If such a move in this direction is initiated, it would be a great recognition of his meritorious service to Malayalam language. At the same time it would help revive from oblivion this great work and place it in the heart of readers.

The works of Sahib which have won accolades at central and state government level should be made available to the reading public as well student communities. At a time when lesser glories are highlighted and celebrated, a deserving genius should not go unrewarded. Vazhayathu Shri. Shajahan (Son of Sahib) had send a request letter to the Kerala Governer to initiate steps for getting his work prescribed at university levels.
